Picture Discussion -- Kunxian

  • This picture depicts a scene of some rescuers trying to save some victims of an earthquake. It is an earthquake as i can see that the victims were trapped under a collasped infrastructure.

  • This earthquake should most probably be the recent si chuan earthquake, as i can see that the rescuers are from China civil defence. From the skin colour of the children, they must be chinese.

  • Judging from the casualties, who are kids, the infrastructure that have collasped must be a school. From all the deaths among the children, they must have been trapped inside for more than a day.

  • I can see that the rescuers are trying their very best to look for any survivors, they must be very worried about the lives of the casualties. Although some of the children may have already died, the rescuers are still trying their best to extract the corpse from debris. They must be trying to extract the corpse because they want their family members to know about their children's situation.

  • The rescuers must be feeling very apprehensive and melancholic. They must be very anxious to look for survivors and worried if the survivors can survive for long. It must be very sad to see that so many innocent lives were lost because of an earthquake.

  • The survivors should most probably be feeling optimistic now that they would soon be safe and out of danger. However, being trapped under a collasped infrastructure, with many dead bodies, for so long, the survivors would most probably suffer from trauma or depression soon after. I think i would not be able to survive long trapped with so many dead bodies, it must be a gruesome sight.

  • Soon after, i think the survivors would be safe and sent to hospitals and the corpse would most probably be sent to their family members. I think the rescuers will also heave a sigh of relieve that they have cleared another area.

  • The photograph could have been taken as part of an article for a newspaper to show the touching scenes where people work together in the event of a natural disaster. It can also show the damage done and the hardships some people has gone through.

  • In conclusion, although this is a small picture, there are many lessons that can be learnt. People tend to show their true colours during times of hardship and we should not take what we have now for granted. We are actually very lucky to be able to live in such a safe and civilized country. All this lessons from such a small picture boils down to one important pharase. A picture depicts a thousand words.
