Picture Discussion -- Natalie
This picture seems to be taken during a celebration or a parade of some sort as there are a lot of people milling around groups of people wearing costumes and performing.
I think that the festival must be held for the honoring of some sort of temple, as i can see clearly, the parade are held in front of a temple. the day that it is held must be a public holiday as there are a lot people standing around, enjoying the parade. In addition, the parade must be held during a winter season, as i can see
There is a lady who is wearing a mask over the nose and mouth. She is probably either having a small cough and does not wish to affect the others around her thus wearing a mask. Or, she has a sensitive nose and thus tries to prevent herself from sneezing too much by all the dust stirred up by the stomping of the performers.
I think that the crowd of people who are watching the parade are actually taking this oppotunity to have a family outing together as i can see that there are a lot of families standing together watching the parade. There is a guy standing right in front of the performers carrying a small boy. I think that the small boy may be scared a little by the performers as his tiny hand which is resting on his father shoulder, appears to be gripping the cloth tightly. He is probably scared of the exaggerated way the performers put on their make-up and their flashy costumes.
I think that the parade is already nearing the end of its performance, as the performers are all performing around the main gate of the temple. the performers would probably go into the temple soon after and thus, ending the parade after they had gone down the street, performing.
The photographer who took this picture could probably be thinking about capturing the spirit of the festival in the air and the happy faces of the families who had gone to watch the parade together. In conclusion, i feel that although the faces of the people were not very clearly seen, the feel of a happy family outing has been successfully captured on film by the photographer.
