Picture Discussion -- Eunice

This picture depicts a scene of an area which is experiencing a flood, perhaps after a torrential downpour. From the complexion of most of the people in the picture, I think that this natural disaster is happening in a certain part of Malaysia or Indonesia.

One may ask why the group of ladies are still smiling away despite facing this tragedy. In my opinion, their first priority should be the safety of their family members during such situations. Therefore, I believe that their kin ones are safe from the flood, which is the reason to the smiles on their faces.

Their next priority should be their important documents and the items they treasure most. It is therefore not surprising to see a man pushing a bucket which contains a plastic bag. I believe that the bag contains some important valuables.

I can see that there are a few Caucasians which are most probably tourists touring in the country. They definitely have no idea that the disaster was going to strike at that point of time. Although so, experiencing this flood should be an eye-opener to them since their country should be more developed and does not encounter such problems.

In any kind of disaster, there will definitely be kind people who offer their help. From the picture, I can see two trucks with people sitting on it. In my point of view, they should be going around the area to save lives and properties, so as to help lessen the damage caused by this disaster.

I strongly believe that there are still many other implications other than just the lost of lives and homes of the residents living in the affected area. This flood can lead to more lost of lives due to the spreading of diseases aftermath. In addition, millions of dollars will be needed to rebuild the affected homeland.

The cause of this flood is likely because of the poor drainage system in that area. I am convinced that with proper drainage system, it will go a long way to prevent such disasters from happening again. In conclusion, I would strongly urge the government to invest in improving the drainage system in this area.
